Keane accrues more than Sir Alex

FourFourTwo.com’s Football Rich List 2009/10 - revealed today - shows that the former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland midfielder has pocketed more in his career so far than the current United supremo.

The news may come as timely consolation to Keane, who is current under immense pressure at Portman Road, with Ipswich currently languishing at the foot of the Championship without a win to their name so far this season.

Keane, 38, is said to be worth £27 million - thanks in no small part to the £100,000 a week wages handed to him by Sir Alex during the later days of his spell at Old Trafford, and £6 million earned during his time as manager of Sunderland.

The Scotsman, meanwhile, is valued at just £22 million, an amount hit by the negative effect the current financial downturn has had on his property portfolio.

The figures see Keane and Ferguson take second and third spot in the top 20 richest managers in British football – ahead of the likes of Spurs boss Harry Redknapp (£10 million) and Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger (£15 million), with only England boss Fabio Capello (£30 million) worth more.

Four of United’s current playing staff feature in the Top 100 richest in British football, with Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs all worth upwards of £24 million, thanks to a combination of their lucrative Old Trafford contracts and various commercial endorsements.

In fact, the only one of the top five active players in the Rich List is former United star David Beckham, who weighs in at an astounding £125 million.
