Manchester United monitoring Maicon

The 28-year-old Brazilian has made 97 Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri - scoring eight times - since arriving from Monaco in 2006.

And the powerful, pacy full-back, who has 50 caps for his country, was part of the Samba Boys' successful Confederations Cup campaign in South Africa earlier this summer, scoring against eventual runners up USA in the group phase.

Maicon was strongly linked with a moves to Chelsea and Real Madrid this summer, only for the full-back stay put at the San Siro.

However, his representitive Antonio Caliendo has since revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson's side have long been admirers of the lung-busting right-back, but have yet to make a formal approach for his services.

"The interest of Manchester United in my client is nothing new, they have followed him for a long time," he told TuttoPremier.it.

"However, that has never resulted in any contact."
