World Cup 2026 is upon us and FIFA's 211 members have been whittled down, one way or another, to 48. That's too many.
The Federation Internationale de Football Association, football's world governing body that mercifully hasn't yet been rebranded as World Football, has 211 members. The United Nations recognises eight member states or permanent observers that exist outside FIFA.
In this quiz we want you to name those eight sovereign nations. There's no time limit on this one so take your time and let us know below how long you take the name them all.
Handpicked football quizzes we know you'll love
Far be it from us to say this was the kind of quiz subject you'll know or you won't, but if you'd rather stay inside the FIFA walls we have a whole host of World Cup quizzes, courtesy of Kwizly. First up, we have a starting line-up quiz: Can you name Scotland's starting line-up from their last World Cup finals fixture at World Cup 1998?
The United States will partially host their second World Cup this year, 32 years after the first. We want you to name 20 of the biggest stars of World Cup 1994. We'll give you their pictures. You'll give us their names.
With World Cup 2026 looming large, we also want you to name the most successful club from each of the 48 nations that qualified for World Cup 2026 and every nation to have played in any other World Cup but not qualified for this one.
