Stockport County vs Stevenage: League 1 preview

It looked destined for a 0-0 from the minute the game started, with just 13 shots across the opening 93 minutes, before an uncharacteristic mix-up at the back for Stevenage handed Stockport the win.

Boro had the second-best defence in League One this term, and you felt their best chance of winning this two-legged tie was to take something to hold on to at Edgeley Park.

Now, they do not have that, and the onus will be on them to find some goals in this tie. They do, however, know exactly how to do that against today’s opponents, having beaten the Hatters 3-1 away from home earlier this season.

For Stockport, this game is the culmination of five years of hard work from Dave Challinor. The former Hartlepool and Fylde manager has taken them from the National League to the heights of League One in just a matter of seasons, and he will be desperate for his side to take one step closer to second-tier football tonight.

Striker-turned-centre-back Kyle Wootton will likely be a threat in both boxes for County, while Oliver Norwood will look to dictate things from midfield.

FourFourTwo's prediction

Stockport County 1-1 Stevenage

FourFourTwo expects Boro to have a go, but they just won't have enough again Dave Challinor's side.
