Injured Schmelzer returns to training
In a race to achieve full fitness before the start of the Bundesliga season, Borussia Dortmund's Marcel Schmelzer is training again.
With the Bundesliga season quickly approaching, Borussia Dortmund have confirmed Marcel Schmelzer has returned to training.
Restricted to running at this stage, however, Schmelzer has not yet resumed full training.
Making 26 league appearances last term, the Dortmund captain partially tore a ligament in his right ankle during the International Champions Cup in Asia.
It was confirmed the 29-year-old would miss four weeks upon his return to Germany, putting him in a race to be fit for Dortmund's league opener against Wolfsburg on August 19.
Marco Reus, Julian Weigl and Raphael Guerreiro are already set to miss the start of the season, but Schmelzer's return would be a welcome one for new coach, Peter Bosz.
