Rangers will be looking to continue their superb start to the season when they do battle with Falkirk in the last 16 of the League Cup this weekend.
Steven Gerrard could hardly have asked for a better start to 2020/21, with his team having opened up an 11-point lead over Celtic at the summit of the Scottish Premiership standings. Gerrard’s side have conceded only three league goals this season, and the eight they scored against Hamilton Academical and Aberdeen in their last two outings took their tally for the Premiership season to 41. Rangers look like a well-rounded team at present, and they are playing with a consistency that has hitherto eluded their eternal rivals from across the city.
Their title ambitions will be put on hold when they visit Falkirk this weekend. The Bairns may have made a good start to the new League One season, but Gerrard will nevertheless shuffle his pack against lower-league opposition.
Several fringe members of the squad will hope for a chance from the first whistle, including Ianis Hagi, Jermain Defoe and Brandon Barker, all of whom began on the bench against Aberdeen last weekend. Allan McGregor, who is closing in on his 400th competitive appearance for the club, could be given the afternoon off, while Ryan Kent, Kemar Roofe, Scott Arfield and Alfredo Morelos are also in line to be rested.
