European champions Barcelona reportedly enquired about the possibility of signing Manchester United winger Nani after May's Champions League final in Rome.
Nou Camp supremo Pep Guardiola is believed to be actively seeking a new left-sided signing to provide competition for former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry ahead of the 2009/10 campaign, and had identified the Red Devils' Portuguese starlet as a candidate.
However, according to the Sunday Telegraph, the Catalans were informed that there was no chance of them luring the youngster away from Old Trafford this summer, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson keen to keep hold of the 22-year-old, mindful of the fact that FIFA World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo could leave for Real Madrid.
The Spanish treble-winners have since been linked with other targets who could carry out a similar role this season, including Valencia's Juan Mata.
Nani, after scoring the opener in Sunday's Community Shield defeat to Chelsea at Wembley, is expected to miss the start of the Premier League season after dislocating his shoulder in the match.
