Liverpool's bid for a top three finish was dealt a potential blow after Mohamed Salah limped out of their recent Premier League win over Crystal Palace.

The Egypt international had already signalled his intention to leave Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign but risked it being a curtailed farewell tour.

Salah underwent a scan on the problem which Arne Slot's side later confirmed had only been a minor setback and would not end his season early despite initial fears.

Ahead of the Premier League champions' trip to Manchester United, Slot provided an update on the timeline for the 32-year-old's planned return to action during the run-in.

"As we know from Mo, he’s always working incredibly hard during the season when he’s fit, but definitely also when he is injured to be back as soon as possible," said Slot.

"That's what he’s trying now so well. Usually he's earlier fit than other players after a minor injury - because he has a minor injury. We expect him indeed to be back in the final part of the season, but not for Sunday."

Salah is unlikely to be the only established Liverpool player absent for the Old Trafford clash with goalkeeper Alisson still working his way back from a hamstring injury.

Asked about the latest on the Brazilian, Slot said: "Ali hasn’t trained with us yet.

"[He is] very close to training with us, I have to hear today from the medical staff if he is able to train today or either tomorrow or otherwise the start of next week.

“He is very close but of course, also we don’t want to take any risks, because that’s never what you do with a player and that’s also not what we do now.”

After facing off against United, who sit above them in the race for third, Liverpool will take on Chelsea, Aston Villa before a final-day encounter with Brentford on 24 May.

Anfield will say goodbye to not only Salah but also Andy Robertson after the game with the Bees with the vice-captain also confirmed to be departing this summer.
