Russian playmaker Anderi Arshavin was on the brink of joining Arsenal as the winter transfer window closed on Monday evening. Both his club, Zenit St. Petersburg and the Gunners had agreed a fee for the forward, while the player and Arsenal had nailed down personal terms.
And Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reportedly told Sky Sports News on Monday evening that he was confident a deal for the Russian would be completed before the end of the day.
The completion of the transfer believed to be hinging on a payment being agreed between the player and his club, reportedly a signing-on fee, which Arshavin owed Zenit for breaking his contract with the UEFA Cup holders.
