Liverpool will be looking for their fifth win in the Champions League this season when they face Midtjylland on Wednesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side secured their place in the last 16 of Europe’s premier club competition with victory over Ajax last week. The Reds have handled a potentially tricky group extremely well, losing only one match to Atalanta when Klopp heavily rotated his team. The German may well shuffle his pack again here, particularly as Liverpool have already wrapped up top spot and have a busy festive fixture list on the horizon domestically.
Atalanta ran out 2-0 winners at Anfield last month, but Liverpool have kept clean sheets in each of their other four European fixtures this term. Klopp will be delighted with the way his players have acquitted themselves in the group stage, particularly as the Reds have had to deal with significant disruption owing to a lengthy injury list. If Liverpool fans had one wish for this game, it would probably be that no other players are consigned to the treatment table.
Klopp’s side have not had everything their own way this season, but some of their recent performances - notably against Leicester and Wolves in the Premier League - have shown that they are still the team to beat in England. They are also among the favourites to win the Champions League this season, having reached the final in two of the last three seasons.
Midtjylland have taken only one point from their five games to date, and their chances of qualifying for the Europa League are already over. The Danish side will therefore be playing for pride against the six-time European champions, who beat them 2-0 at Anfield in October.
Liverpool will be without long-term absentees Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk, but Trent Alexander-Arnold could start after featuring as a substitute against Wolves. Thiago Alcantara, Alisson Becker, James Milner, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out.

The only broadcaster with rights for the Champions League in the UK this is BT Sport, which will show every single game from the group stage, knockout rounds and final.
