Kovacs also boasts major international tournament credentials with fourth official duties at the 2022 World Cup and refereeing two group stage fixtures at Euro 2024.

The 41-year-old had the distinction of blowing the whistle on the landmark 1,000th World Cup game at this summer's tournament between Tunisia and Japan.

But Kovacs's reputation as a strict disciplinarian precedes him due to 3,154 bookings in 604 games which averages out at just over five per match officiated.
