Quiz! Can you name the 23 players to break the world record transfer fee since 1967?

Cristiano Ronaldo

We've not had a world record-breaking transfer fee in two whole years. It can't go on: the unsustainable transfer market bubble must keep expanding to new, ludicrous sizes to keep us all entertained. Doesn't it?

In the last 52 years, football's world-record transfer fee has gone from a Premier League striker's weekly wage of £300,000 to an inflation-busting £198 million. Yikes. Some of these players have been sublime hits, others have proved less cost-effective. One was even English.

And the good news, for those of us prepared to see the game we love crushed under the weight of money, is that the last two to break the record are both agitating for a big-time switches again this summer. Oh, the romance of it all.

We're giving you seven magical minutes to name the players responsible for these dizzying sums. The record has been smashed 25 times – by 23 players – from 1967 to now, so get guessing.

As ever, don't forget to tell us how you fared on Twitter @FourFourTwo – we'll retweet your scores to our followers so you can compare yourself against the rest. Just make sure you don't give away any answers, because that would be silly. Good luck!
