Australia players given laser treatment

SYDNEY - Australian coach Pim Verbeek complained to officials after several of his players appeared to have laser pointers shone in their eyes by Kuwait supporters during Wednesday's 2011 Asian Cup qualifying tie.

Goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic and midfielder Dario Vidosic were the main targets distracted by the glaring beams of light during the match in Kuwait City, in which the Socceroos let slip a two-goal lead to draw 2-2.

"It was the goalkeeper (who suffered)... also at the corner kicks, Dario Vidosic was taking the corner kicks and they were pushing a laser on his face," Verbeek told Fox Sports.

"I mentioned it to the officials but that's OK. Things like this happen."

In their last group matches, Australia host Indonesia and Kuwait travel to Oman with both sides only needing a point to qualify for the finals in Qatar next year.
