Sevilla win was not about revenge - Banega

Ever Banega insisted Sevilla's 2-1 win against Spartak Moscow was not a revenge mission, although he hailed his side's character in bouncing back from a thrashing in Russia.

Spartak had won the reverse Champions League fixture 5-1 two weeks earlier, stunning a Sevilla outfit that had chances to take all three points away from home.

But Banega and his team-mates were back on form in Group E on Wednesday, with the Argentina international creating the first goal for Clement Lenglet and adding the second himself.

And he was pleased with the way Sevilla conducted themselves, even if he was not interested in avenging their shock defeat.

"This wasn't about revenge, this was about the three points," he said.

"We tried to control the game at all moments, but what was most impressive about our performance is that it demonstrated the personality of the squad. We never lost our cool and we reacted well."

The impressive Lenglet added: "We played well for 70 minutes, really good football, but we didn't tuck away a chance for 3-0.

"They scored and by the end it wasn't as straightforward as it might have been."
