Ederson to Manchester United meeting set
The Atalanta midfielder, fellow countryman to Casemiro, was revealed last week by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano to be Manchester United’s first signing of the summer.
According to a report from ESPN Brazil’s SportsCenter and Brazilian transfer expert Jorge Nicola, a meeting has been scheduled for yesterday to finalise the deal.
The former report aligned itself with Romano’s assessment, describing Ederson as an almost ex-Atalanta player.
Nicola spoke with Andre Cury, the Brazilian’s representative, who revealed that the deal will exceed the previously quoted £35 million, rising to £40 million with ‘easily achievable’ bonuses.
Only small details remain, which are expected to be resolved in today’s meeting and confirm Ederson as a Manchester United player for next season.
The Red Devils are also the beneficiaries of perfect timing regarding the 26-year-old, who received a major World Cup call-up boost on Monday.
The midfielder will now travel to North America with Brazil’s World Cup 2026 squad, after Roma’s Wesley Franca suffered an adductor injury during his country’s friendly against Egypt.
The national team’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti — ranked at no.17 in FourFourTwo’s list of the greatest managers of all time — has displayed remarkable faith in Ederson with this decision.
Franca is a right-back for club and country, meaning Ederson’s inclusion was weighed up as being more beneficial to Brazil than a replacement full-back, as was expected.
Manchester United will now welcome their signing, on what is expected to be a four-year deal, after a World Cup campaign under the guidance of Ancelotti, playing at football’s highest level.
