Gilberto: Arsenal need man like Melo
Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva says fellow countryman Felipe Melo should not think twice about joining the Gunners.
The 25-year-old Brazilian international has made 29 league appearances for la Viola since arriving from Spanish side Almeria a year ago.
And he was part of the Brazil side that successfully defended their Confederations Cup crown on Sunday with victory against USA, having netted for the Samba Boys against the same opposition in the group phase of the competition.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is believed to be a keen admirer of the middle-man, who has been capped 10 times by his country, with the Frenchman eager to add some steel to his midfield ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
And despite Melo's spokesman recently quashing reports linking the player with a move away, insisting the former Flamengo man is happy in Italy, the midfielder's Brazil comrade Gilberto believes he should not think twice about a move to Arsenal should Wenger come calling.
"We heard rumours and he asked me. I said it's a fantastic club and if he's interested he should go without thinking," he said.
"He is exactly what they need, a powerful player with quality. If they got him it would be great because he is a player they need at the moment.
"I'm sure if they got him it would be a good signing. I have told him Arsenal is a great club and I am sure next season they will improve."
