Record goalscorer Shevchenko named Ukraine coach

Ukraine have named record goalscorer Andriy Shevchenko as their new coach.

Shevchenko, who scored 48 goals in 111 caps in his international career, replaces Mikhail Fomenko following Ukraine's dismal performance at Euro 2016.

Former AC Milan, Chelsea and Dynamo Kiev striker Shevchenko was part of Fomenko's coaching staff at the tournament but has now been given the reins ahead of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.

Shevchenko's first game in charge will come against Iceland on September 5.
