Rooney may miss Moscow mission

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has admitted that he could miss the club's Champions League clash against CSKA Moscow later this month to witness the birth of his first child.

And he could also be absent for the crunch league tie against Liverpool should Rooney Jnr arrive slightly late.

Rooney and wife Coleen are expecting a baby on October 24 - three days after the Red Devils' European tie in Russia and one day before Sir Alex Ferguson's side head to Anfield to face arch rivals Liverpool.

And the England international has revealed that he wants to be present for the arrival of his first son or daughter, and is prepared to put work to one side in order to be at his wife's aid.

“Of course I want to be there for the birth of my child," he said in the Daily Star.

"And if anything happens around that time, then I am sure I will stay back [from tie in Moscow].

“If everything is going to plan, then I will be there playing for United because that’s my job and that’s what I am paid to do.

“Moscow is a long way but I have a job to go and play for United. Unless anything changes, I will be there.”
