Derby County midfielder Giles Barnes is poised to join Premier League club Fulham on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent transfer. The 20-year-old scored twice in Derby's 4-2 League Cup Semi Final second leg defeat at Manchester United, the first a penalty (pictured) before rifling home a free-kick. "We've got to give Giles that opportunity," Rams manager Nigel Clough told BBC Radio Derby. "He's not what we'd class as 100 percent match-fit, he's been out an awfully long time and in our situation we hope it won't do us any harm. It is a dilemma that we haven't got that time or luxury to give him a few games to get him match-fit. "We need players and results now, so that was behind our thinking as well."
Fulham have been searching for a replacement central midfielder, following the £5 million sale of Jimmy Bullard to Hull City last week. The Cottagers have also been linked with a move for Cardiff City starlet Joe Ledley.
