Home United's Peres de Oliveira has not been seen at training since the beginning of March after he was dropped from the first team.
Club officials have been unable to contact him, the Straits Times newspaper reported on Thursday, and it is unclear if the 36-year-old is still in Singapore or has returned to Brazil.
"Most probably, we will release Peres," Home assistant coach S. Subramani said. The armband has since been handed to Singapore international midfielder Shahril Ishak.
Club coach Lee Lim-saeng, a former South Korean international, last week lamented the player's attitude.
"I'm so disappointed in Peres. Football is not an individual sport but he wants to play an individual game. Some players have strong egos."
