Sheringham and Harris set for Everyman run
Men everywhere are being urged by footballers to 'keep their eye on the ball' and lace up their running shoes to raise funds for the charity of the same name. The 'men-only' run - of either 5km or 10km - is taking place on June 7 in London's Victoria Park and is organised my men's charity Everyman Male Cancer Campaign and supported by both The FA and The PFA.
Former Millwall, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United forward Teddy Sheringham will be taking part, as will current Lions striker Neil Harris, Hull City goalkeeper Matt Duke and Notts County defender Adam Tann.
"We all know men love a bit of competition," said Sheringham.
"And where football is involved the stakes are even higher. So lads, leave the banter in the pub, sign-up for the run and separate the front runners from those just making up the numbers while also raising money for a great cause."
While Millwall striker, and testicular cancer survivor, Neil Harris broke his club's all-time goalscoring record this season, and will be looking to beat his personal best at this year's run.
"Testicular cancer is an issue very close to my heart so I will always do my bit to help raise awareness and funds," said Harris.
"Last year I achieved my personal best time so hopefully as I cross the finishing line this time I'll be celebrating another record broken."
The top performers will be honoured for their achievements, with the winning club the one that finishes with the best average running time. Last year's champions were Stoke City.
The run raised over £45,000 last year and Everyman are hoping that this can be bettered in 2009.
