Stewart Downing is set to join Aston Villa this summer after Middlesbrough accepted a £12 million offer from Martin O'Neill's side, according to Sky Sports News.
The England international, who has featured 23 times for his country, has been linked with a move away from the Riverside Stadium since January, when Tottenham Hotspur were believed to be interested in acquiring him.
And with Gareth Southgate's side now plying their trade in the Championship following their demotion last season, the 24-year-old winger, who has made 180 league appearances for the Teessiders, appears destined for a swift return to the top flight.
Downing is currently recovering from a broken foot, ironically sustained against Villa in May, and is not expected to return to first-team action until Christmas. VILLA FANS!
