Makaay penalty earns Feyenoord point

ROTTERDAM - Roy Makaay hit a stoppage-time penalty to salvage a 1-1 draw for Feyenoord at home to Twente Enschede in the Dutch league on Sunday.

Feyenoord dominated the first hour and were unlucky when Andwele Slory hit the post with a long drive.

The match flared up after an hour when Twente coach Steve McClaren was sent off and Nicky Kuiper opened the scoring for the visitors but four minutes into injury time Makaay earned Feyenoord a deserved point.

After five matches defending champions AZ Alkmaar are top with 12 points following their 2-1 home win over Willem II Tilburg on Saturday, while Feyenoord are second with 11, level on points with PSV Eindhoven and Twente.

Danny Koevermans hit a second-half double to give PSV a 2-0 win at Groningen, while Kees Kwakman and Matthew Amoah were on target in the second half in NAC Breda's 2-0 victory over Heerenveen.

Breda are sixth with 10 points, level with Utrecht, 2-0 winners over Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday, who have a game in hand.
