Barca ready to break bank for Fabregas
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will be leaving the Premier League for La Liga sooner rather than later, if Barcelona president Joan Laporta has anything to do with it. Laporta has confirmed he wants to steal the Spaniard away from the Gunners this summer, and is ready to offer Arsene Wenger £45 million for their star central midfielder. “I would very much like to see Cesc wearing the shirt of Barcelona,” said Laporta. “He was formed in our academy and it’s certain he’d adapt to our system. “We already have the best midfield in the world but you can always get better.”
The Spanish international is currently contracted to the North London club until 2014.
But having hinted in the past that he would like to return to former club Barca one day, and recently revealed he held a telephone conversation with ex-Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon, bids for the 21-year-old could skyrocket as the pair attempt to out-bid each other.
Barcelona are currently top of La Liga, but have seen their 12-point lead reduced to six following back-to-back defeats to Espanyol and Atletico Madrid, with second-placed Real Madrid still to hosts the leaders at the Bernabeu.
