Bruce acknowledges Hourihane’s class soured his Aston Villa return

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce was left to rue “two pieces of magic” from Conor Hourihane as his return to Aston Villa turned sour.

Using his “wand of a left foot”, as described by Villa boss Dean Smith, the Republic of Ireland international stroked home Villa’s opener from a set piece in the 32nd minute before teeing up Anwar El Ghazi with another piercing free-kick delivery four minutes later.
