For sale: Beckham's old car
Looking for that extra-special Christmas present this year? How about a 1994 VW Golf for the princely sum of £1,995? If that sounds extortionate in the current economic climate, it’s because one of its previous owners was David Beckham.
Already this month, Beckham’s childhood house in Leytonstone has gone up for sale at an eye-popping £850,000 while his once cherished Bentley Arnage T is on the market for £99,000. Now, a Hampshire car dealer is selling the first vehicle Becks owned, when he was a teenage trainee at Manchester United.
A 1994 VW Golf would usually only set you back around £500, but the Beckham factor has quadrupled the asking price. As a result, the car has been on the forecourt of the dealership for weeks.
“Nobody believes it’s genuine,” said dealer Gez Keogh, waving the Golf’s log-book. “The DVLA confirms that it is. So I bumped up the price – I thought it would fly out of the door."
Keogh didn't say whether the clutch was worn out through Beckham's lack of a left foot... possibly because we didn't ask him.
