Barry keen on summer switch to Arsenal

The 28-year-old has long been a target for Rafael Benitez at Liverpool, who appeared set to seal a deal for the midfielder 12 months ago, only for the move to fall through with both clubs disagreeing over the transfer fee.

Barry is expected to renew his desire to leave Villa Park during the close season, after Martin O'Neill's side saw a top-four finish evaporate following a disappointing end to the campaign.

However, the former Brighton youngster could be heading south to North London instead, becoming one of the experienced heads Gunners' fans are desperate to see manager Arsene Wenger recruit to compliment his vast array of talented youngsters.

Barry is holding out for a move to Arsenal in order to play Champions League football, according to the Daily Star, with the newspaper claiming Barry wants his loyalty for staying at Villa Park in 2008/09 to be rewarded with a transfer to a Big Four club.
