City to speak to Given but new Santa bid snubbed
Newcastle United have allowed Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given permission to talk to English Premier League rivals Manchester City about a possible transfer.
However, manager Joe Kinnear told reporters he would be reluctant to lose a player he described as one of Newcastle's best all-time keepers. He also said the club were unhappy with City's "derisory" offer of five million pounds ($7.15 million).
Meanwhile, Manchester City have had another improved offer for Paraguay striker Roque Santa Cruz rejected by Premier League rivals Blackburn Rovers, said City manager Mark Hughes who gave no details of the size of the latest bid.
Earlier this month City made an offer "significantly higher" than the 12 million pounds they bid for Santa Cruz in the close season.
