Fabregas: Arsenal title hopes unrealistic
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has admitted it is unrealistic for the Gunners to believe they have a genuine chance of lifting the Premier League title this season. Arsene Wenger's side are currently a mammoth 17 points adrift of leaders Manchester United following four consecutive league draws.
And the Gunners' Champions League qualification hopes are now also in doubt, with surprise package Aston Villa currently occupying fourth spot, six-points clear of their north London adversaries.
Fabregas, who is still sidelined with a knee injury sustained against Liverpool in December, says Arsenal's main - if only - task must now be to usurp Villa and ensure Champions League football at the Emirates Stadium next season.
"It's not realistic to look at the league title now," he told the Evening Standard. "You can never say never but we would not be intelligent to be looking right to the top of the league.
"To be intelligent now is to go game by game and think about who is directly in front of us.
"Now we have to make sure we put a run of wins together and don't lose more points. Aston Villa will drop points, of that I am sure, and that's why we need to be ready to capitalise at the right time."
