Tomasz Kuszczak

Tomasz Kuszczak

Team: Birmingham
Value: £500k

Info: Ex-Poland man Kuszczak signed a two-year contract with Birmingham in May, but you could snag him on a free in FM 2017’s first summer transfer window. At 35, the former Manchester United man is still one of the second tier's best goalkeepers.

Darnell Fisher

Darnell Fisher

Team: Rotherham
Value: £675k

Info: The 23-year-old spent five years at Celtic before joining Rotherham in August 2016. He’s a hot prospect in this game, bragging fine determination, teamwork and pace attributes. Fisher is also versatile, and can play at right-back or right of midfield.

Tom Field

Tom Field

Team: Brentford
Value: £300k

Info: Aged only 19 in-game, Brentford’s Field is one for the future. The hot prospect is considered better suited to League One in FM 2017, but has the potential to grow well beyond his current ability. Field is definitely worth considering.

Craig Morgan

Craig Morgan

Team: Wigan
Value: £250k

Info: Wigan’s experienced Welsh stopper is only worth just over £200k in FM 2017 thanks to his age. But don’t write him off – he retains terrific qualities in heading, tackling, leadership and more, making him a consistent acquisition if you can nab him.

Jon Stankovic

Jon Stankovic

Team: Huddersfield
Value: £600k

Info: The Slovenian is recovering from a cruciate ligament injury in real life, but is a strong performer in FM 2017. He’s tied down to a multi-year contract with the Terriers, so you’ll need to blow your budget to get the ex-Borussia Dortmund defender away from Yorkshire.

Steve Sidwell

Steve Sidwell

Team: Brighton
Value: £375k

Info: Sidwell helped Brighton win promotion to the Premier League last season. The seasoned midfielder remains an excellent player in FM 2017, but his age means you can get him for relatively little. In real life the 34-year-old just inked a one-year extension in June – but you needn't worry about that bit in FM 2017.

Daryl Horgan

Daryl Horgan

Team: Preston
Value: £825k

Info: The Preston schemer earned received his first Republic of Ireland cap in March – just reward for a consistent set of displays in recent years. The former Dundalk and Cork City wideman packs excellent attributes in acceleration, pace, dribbling and flair.

Nick Powell

Nick Powell

Team: Wigan
Value: £850k

Info: Powell is one of the more expensive stars here, but he’s worth it – his potential suggests he can develop into a Premier League regular. He’s been there before – the ex-Manchester United man netted his only goal for the Red Devils against current employers Wigan in 2012.

Conor Washington

Conor Washington

Team: QPR
Value: £825k

Info: Northern Ireland international Washington is prolific in FM 2017. The former Peterborough hitman boasts strong stats for his acceleration, pace and finishing, while his comparatively low valuation and ‘backup’ categorisation make him a realistic target for almost anyone in the Championship.

Jermaine Beckford

Jermaine Beckford

Team: Preston
Value: £165k

Info: Beckford has since swapped Preston for League One Bury in real life, but this won't be replicated until FM 2018. Therefore, you can sign the natural goalscorer for a low cost. The ex-Leeds striker has the potential to manage a 20-goal campaign... if you’re lucky.
