Arsenal add Edge to academy squad

The 15-year-old had previously impressed in two trials with the Emirates Stadium outfit, and will - subject to personal terms being agreed - link up with Liam Brady's academy hoping to become yet another star to roll off Arsene Wenger's acclaimed conveyor belt.

"Cheltenham Town have reached a financial agreement with Arsenal for the transfer of Jamie Edge," the Robins' club chairman Paul Baker told their official website.

"We believe it is an excellent deal for the club both in terms of the money we will receive this season and next and further payments that become due depending upon the progress Jamie makes at both club and international level.

"It is a particularly exciting opportunity for Jamie who now has to agree personal terms with Arsenal before the deal can be confirmed."

However, news of signing another teenage starlet is likely to do little to appease frustrated Gunners supporters pleaing for Wenger to capture several experienced heads this summer to compliment a squad awash with unpolished potential.
