Germany to face Argentina in friendly

BERLIN - Germany will take on Argentina in a friendly match in Munich on March 3 as part of both teams' preparations for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the German football federation said on Friday.

"I am happy they agreed," said Germany coach Joachim Loew. "Despite some problems in their qualification, Argentina are in my opinion one of the strongest teams in the world."

The game is part of a two-match package agreed with the South Americans with the other friendly set for 2012.

Argentina are also hoping to organise a friendly against fellow World Cup bound teams Serbia or Slovakia after their match against Spain in Madrid next month, organisers said on Thursday.

Argentina, who secured their berth at the 2010 World Cup finals in their last qualifier earlier this month, meet European champions Spain at Madrid's Bernabeu stadium on November 14 as part of the Spanish federation's centenary celebrations.

November 14 and 18 are World Cup play-off dates, which teams who have already qualified can use for friendlies.

Argentina took the fourth automatic South American berth at the South Africa finals behind Brazil, Chile and Paraguay.

Spain, Serbia and Slovakia all won their respective groups in Europe to qualify for the finals.
