Independiente stopper set for Gunners trial

Independiente goalkeeper Damian Martinez is to take part in a trial with Arsenal. The highly-rated 16-year-old is believed to have caught the eye of the Gunners' scouts during recent outings for the Argentina U17 side, and is now due to arrive in London this week to allow the Emirates Stadium outfit to monitor him more closely.

Should he impress, the South American gloveman is reportedly available for in the region of £1 million.

"When I was told that I was going to have a trial at Arsenal I thought that someone was joking," he told Radio Rivadavia.

"In fact, I thought that they were talking about Arsenal de Sarandi, the team called like that but that plays in Argentina."
