Xavi: No need for Ronaldo at Barcelona
Barcelona playmaker Xavi says is glad Real Madrid-bound forward Cristiano Ronaldo is not joining the European champions.
The FIFA World Player of the Year is expected to complete his world record £80 million transfer from Manchester United to the Bernabeu this week, with some Barca fans cussing the fact that their arch rivals have splashed out on the Portuguese superstar, as well as AC Milan idol Kaka.
However, Camp Nou legend Xavi insists that Pep Guardiola's treble winners do not need the 24-year-old winger's services, saying the Catalans already have the best player in the world in Lionel Messi and that Ronaldo's glamourous lifestyle would have no place in the current Barca squad.
"The best player in the world is Lionel Messi and there's no chance he will switch allegiance," he told Sport.
"We also have Andres Iniesta, Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o and with that kind of luxury, we are capable of doing anything.
"As for Ronaldo, I wouldn't want him here. At Barca, we do not have room for players who fill gossip magazines.
"We are hard workers and sportsmen but he, on the other hand, is uncontrollable."
