BUENOS AIRES - Paraguay defender Marcos Caceres has damaged knee ligaments playing for Racing Club in the Argentine championship and could miss the 2010 World Cup.

The 23-year-old centre-back was injured on Tuesday in a late tackle by Newell's Old Boys midfielder Cristian Sanchez Prette, who was sent off, and could have surgery on November 5, club sources were quoted as saying in local media.
The injury was another blow to ailing Racing Club, who lost 1-0 to remain bottom of the Apertura standings with five points and no wins in 11 matches.
Paraguay travel to South Africa for their fourth World Cup finals in succession.
