Gladbach split from coach Schubert

Borussia Monchengladbach have parted company with head coach Andre Schubert after a dismal run of one win in 11 games in all competitions.

Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at home to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga was the final straw for Schubert as the club look to revitalise their fortunes after the mid-season break.

After replacing Lucien Favre in September 2015, Schubert was confirmed as Monchengladbach's permanent head coach in November and helped lead them to the Champions League with a fourth-placed finish in the league.

Their fortunes this season have been in stark contrast, though, with the club teetering above the relegation zone in the Bundesliga and knocked out of the group stages of Europe's elite club competition.

Goals from Daniel Caligiuri and Mario Gomez inflicted a seventh defeat in 11 league games on Tuesday, and the Monchengladbach board have acted swiftly.

"In the last few days, we have had many talks and analysed and discussed our sporting development. Together with Andre, we have concluded that it is better for both parties to end our collaboration," said Borussia's sporting director Max Eberl.

"Andre helped us a great deal last season when he led the team from the last place in the table to fourth place and the play-offs at the start of this season into the Champions League.

"The development has stalled for various reasons. Looking at the exciting challenges in the previous round, we decided to reboot with another coach."

Monchengladbach return to action on January 21 against Darmstadt in the Bundesliga.
