Mauricio Pochettino highlighted Tottenham's attacking woes as a major factor in their underwhelming 0-0 draw at struggling Sunderland on Tuesday.
Spurs went to the Stadium of Light looking to keep the pressure on at the top of the table and, while the draw did not see them lose any ground in the title race, it ultimately ended up being a missed opportunity as Chelsea were held by Liverpool at Anfield.
The result sees Spurs remain nine points behind Antonio Conte's men and Pochettino was thoroughly disappointed at his side for not making the most of their superiority against a Sunderland team who hoisted themselves off the bottom of the table.
"We only had one shot on target in the first half and that is poor from us," he said.
"The second half was much better and we created chances, but not enough to win the game. The clean sheet is important, but it does not change my feelings – we are disappointed.
"In the first half it was difficult for us to create chances, which was strange, but in the second half we played better and we had the chances to win the game.
"It was not a good night for us, but it is a good thing for us to learn that we need to play from the beginning of the game with the same aggression and attitude we showed in the second half."
Sunderland were forced to withstand a lot of pressure from Spurs, particularly in the second half, and manager David Moyes was delighted to secure a point, while conceding that his men were hanging on at the end.
"It was a really good point for us," he said. "We played against a top team and it was tough. We had to hang in there.
"We made some chances in the first half, but not many in the second, and it was a hard-worked and well-earned point.
"Tottenham's pressure in the second half was hard to contain and the boys did a great job. They gave everything to get us a result."
Next up for the Black Cats is a vital clash at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
