Iran has decided to privatise the country's soccer clubs in a bid to raise the standard of the national team, the Tehran Times reported on Wednesday.

"The affinity for this sport can be considered as a big asset. Football makes the people happy and cheerful," said fomer president and head of the country's Expediency Discernment Council, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
