Newcastle stay fourth as they continue hot streak with easy win over Aston Villa
St. James' Park continues to be a fortress for Eddie Howe's Magpies, who haven't lost home or away in two months
Newcastle made light work of Aston Villa as they stayed fourth in the Premier League with a 4-0 win at St. James' Park.
Eddie Howe's side have now won five of their last six games are unbeaten in eight; they've also won 11 of their past 15 home outings, losing just once (1-0 to Liverpool at the back end of last season).
The Magpies – who boast the best defensive record in the top flight (10 goals conceded) – look like a real force to be reckoned with this term, and they showed why once again on Saturday afternoon.
It took the hosts until first-half stoppage time to break the deadlock – through Callum Wilson's penalty after Ashley Young's handball – but they never looked back after that.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Wilson doubled Newcastle's lead as he headed in Kieran Trippier's cross following a well-worked short corner routine – before Joelinton made it 3-0 with his first goal of the campaign from a blistering break.
And it was to get even better for Howe's side shortly afterwards as in-form Miguel Almiron bagged his sixth goal in as many outings (and his seventh of 2022/23) with a superb curled effort from 20 yards.
For Villa, it was a result they'll want to quickly put behind them as they prepare for the arrival of Unai Emery – who takes over as head coach on Tuesday.
