Redknapp: No time for new Wembley suits
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has hit out at his side having to play three crucial matches in seven days, saying the busy schedule has prevented him from arranging his cup final suit.
Spurs began their hectic week on Monday night, with Jonathan Woodgate's late header sealing a 2-1 win at Hull City to pull the north London club away from the relegation zone.
However, Tottenham are in action again on Thursday night, attempting to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Cup last 32, before heading to Wembley Stadium on Sunday to face Manchester United in the Carling Cup final.
“Whoever heard of teams playing on a Thursday night before a cup final on a Sunday?" he said.
“It’s ludicrous. In the old days, teams used to be able to go to a hotel for two or three days to prepare. Not any more.
“There’s no time for us to get any rest. The fixture list is crazy. Something has to be done if they don’t want to devalue the Carling Cup.”
And the former Portsmouth boss, who won the FA Cup with Pompey at Wembley last season, joked he may even have to slip into, former Tottenham manager, Juande Ramos' cup final suit from last year, as he has not had time to arrange a new one for himself.
"We can't afford suits at 'Tottingham'," he said, referring to Ossie Ardiles' famous line in Spurs’ 1981 FA Cup final song.
"We've got suits we had measured up last year. I don't know if Ramos' suit is going to fit me!"
