Spain approves rules over violent fans

MADRID - Spain's Socialist government approved new rules on violence in sport on Friday that oblige clubs to list fans in a register to help authorities control potential troublemakers.

The register is designed to help evaluate the threat posed by fans and monitor the activities of extremist groups, as well as establish security protocols for sports facilities and mechanisms for detecting weapons, the government said.

The new rules update Spain's law on violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport.
