Forlin set to fill Jarque boots

MADRID - Espanyol have agreed to sign Argentine defender Juan Forlin from Boca Juniors to help fill the gap left by the sudden death of Dani Jarque, the Spanish club said on its website.

Forlin, 21, will sign a five-year contract once the necessary documentation is in place. Media reported the deal was worth around 4 million euros for a high percentage of the player's rights.

"The tragic loss of Jarque has forced the club to seek out a young player of proven ability to reinforce the defence," Espanyol said in a statement. Club captain Jarque, 26, collapsed and died of heart failure in his hotel while the side were on a pre-season tour of Italy, just over two weeks ago.
