United weighing up Huntelaar deal

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly set to renew his interest in AC Milan striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - also wanted by Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur - during the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old has struggled for first-team opportunities at the San Siro following his summer move from Spanish giants Real Madrid and is desperate to impress ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Milan splashed out £12.8 million for Huntelaar’s services but the Dutchman has been handed just five Serie A starts this term.

The Daily Mail suggests the Red Devils will face competition for Huntelaar’s signature from Eredivise side FC Twente – who are keen to bring the ex-Ajax prodigy back to his homeland on loan.

Reports indicate, however, that Huntelaar’s representatives would be swayed towards their client moving to Old Trafford, as they would prefer the forward to join a bigger club.

Ferguson has also been linked with VfL Wolfsburg starlet Edin Dzeko as the Premier League reigning champions look to bolster their attacking options to help close the gap on leaders Chelsea.
