Toni eyes return to Italy

The forward has played just once for the Bayern's first team this season - in a German Cup match - and said he was unhappy after coach Louis van Gaal gave him a couple of games in the reserves.

"It's not such a good period at Bayern, let's see what happens over the next few months. A return to Italy is my first choice," the 32-year-old, who was part of Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning squad, was quoted as saying by Italian media.

"Last year I could not give as much as I wanted (because of an Achilles injury).

"Now I'm in good shape and I want to take my chances to get into the national team. It's the last World Cup I can play in. I won one as a protagonist and I'd like to try again."

Toni scored 24 league goals in his first season in Germany to help Bayern win the 2008 Bundesliga title.
