Gary Lineker made a surprise appearance on ITV's broadcast of Germany vs Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup, earlier this evening.

The 65-year-old, renowned for being the face of BBC's Match of the Day, parted ways with his former broadcaster after being asked to take a break from the show due to political tweeting.

The ex-England international appeared to discuss FIFA's ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup, and his opinion on Harry Kane, who recently broke a long-standing record previously held by Lineker.

Lineker expressed discontent regarding FIFA's ticket prices for the North American tournament, slamming the event for forcing fans into difficult decisions.

The 65-year-old said: Well, FIFA will argue that the stadiums are all full, and they are... but fans [are] having to take out a second mortgage, or sell their car to be able to afford to watch.

"To fill the pockets of what is supposedly a not-for-profit organisation I just don’t understand what FIFA are doing and why they are making it so difficult," he continued.

"It’s incredible that so many fans have come here despite that. There seems to be a narrative building that the cost of US sport is always expensive... it is FIFA that sets the ticket prices."

The ex-England international also highlighted Harry Kane, who broke Lineker's World Cup goalscoring record for the Three Lions vs Croatia, making a bold claim about the Bayern Munich bagsman.

Lineker joked: “I was genuinely pleased for Harry, obviously, it’s taken him an extra World Cup to do it! And there have been a few penalties in there.

Harry is a way better number 9 than I was…I think he’s our best ever number 9," confessed the 65-year-old.

Lineker wasn't present at the half-time break for Germany vs Ivory Coast, with the latter currently leading 1-0, but his insights remain amongst the most honest of any pundit in world football.
