Early Phil Jagielka strike proves enough as Everton beat Arsenal

Club captain Phil Jagielka – who was not even in the team 30 minutes before kick-off – was Everton’s unlikely match-winner as his first goal in almost two years dented Arsenal’s top-four hopes.

At 36 years and 233 days, the centre-back, a late replacement for the ill Michael Keane and a 50-1 first goalscorer punt, became the oldest player to find the net in the Premier League this season with his early close-range finish enough for a 1-0 win at Goodison Park.
