Cameroon drop duo for Italy friendly

YAOUNDE - Cameroon coach Paul Le Guen has dropped former captain Rigobert Song and experienced midfielder Geremi from his squad for next month's friendly with Italy, state radio reported.

Le Guen also left out Andre Bikey, Aurelien Chedjou, Paul Alo'o Efoulou, Guy Roland Ndy Assembe and Gilles Augustin Binya.

Cameroon reached the quarter-finals of the African Nations Cup last month but after a 3-1 defeat by eventual winners Egypt Le Guen said some of his players had underachieved at the Angola tournament.

The 34-year-old Song played in a record eighth Nations Cup for Cameroon.

Le Guen recalled defenders Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Sebastien Bassong missed the Nations Cup through injury.

Cameroon play Italy in Monaco on March 3 as part of their World Cup preparations.

They have been drawn in Group E along with Netherlands, Denmark and Japan.
