World Cup 2022: Olivier Giroud displaces Thierry Henry as France's all-time top scorer

Olivier Giroud has overtaken France legend Thierry Henry to become Les Bleus' all-time top men's scorer with his goal against Poland at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea striker is leading the line for France following a pre-tournament injury to Real Madrid's Karim Benzema and the 35-year-old is taking his chance in Qatar.

The AC Milan hit a double in France's opening game against Australia and gave Les Bleus an all-important breakthrough late in the first half of their last-16 clash with Poland on Sunday.

It was his 52nd goal for France, taking him beyond Henry, and it comes in his 116th cap for Les Bleus.

Henry scored 51 goals for the French national team in 123 appearances between 1997 and 2010.

Giroud did not score in the 2018 World Cup, but was a key part of the team which lifted the trophy in Russia and has added three goals this time around.

At the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris drew level with France legend Lilian Thuram on 142 appearances for Les Bleus.
