Berisha handed 'official reprimand' for offensive gesture

Melbourne Victory’s mercurial striker Besart Berisha will be available to play against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday after receiving an official reprimand for offensive gestures  to Sydney FC fans.

Berisha appeared to grab his crotch and flip the bird as he left the pitch following a controversial 3-3 clash with the Sky Blues at Allianz Stadium 10 days ago.

The 29-year-old was told by Football Federation Australia on Tuesday any future breach of the Code of Conduct could result in more severe sanctions.

In making its decision FFA took into account the player's contrition and the fact he had already been fined by Victory in relation to the incident.

It also found that Berisha understood "his conduct was unacceptable” and was “remorseful and apologetic” for his actions.

Victory accepted the ruling, forgoing the right to appeal, and enabling the striker to line-up for the title contenders this weekend.
