Berisha penalty downs Reds

A first-half Besart Berisha penalty was enough for Melbourne Victory to down Adelaide United in a closed trial match at Coopers Stadium on Friday.

Victory held off the home side in what was a fiery clash with Victory's Dylan Murnane and Jason Geria, as well as United's Sergio Cirio yellow carded.

The only goal of the game came after 33 minutes when Archie Thompson was fouled inside the box.

Berisha stood up and slotted home the penalty off the left post for his second goal in two games.

Jimmy Jeggo started against his former club and was one of the Reds standouts in the opening 45 minutes.

New signing Craig Goodwin was also given a start after joining from Newcastle Jets on Monday.

Adelaide were unable to find an equaliser in the second-half and Victory held on for a 1-0 win.
